Pivot Point Designer Approach Curriculum

1290 hours / 9 months* / Tuesday to Saturday

Hairdressing 1290 Hours includes the following Red Seal requirements:
• Red Seal Level 1 - 990 Technical Training Hours
• Red Seal Level 1 -  300 Work Base Training Hours

Students will be trained by qualified hairstylists/instructors, to gain knowledge in advanced modern color techniques, color correction, creative custom foiling applications and hair lightening. Training in texture services includes an application of modern perming techniques. The haircutting segment provides the foundation for modern cutting and texturizing techniques, razor and clipper cutting.


Preferred grade 12; 19 years of age or older; will accept students less than 19 years of age with parental consent; parental consent must be given by signing a Del Rio Academy school contract; provide current resume; provide essay (personal statement) as outlined in application; after providing evidence the student may sign an enrolment contract with the Del Rio Academy Of Hair & Esthetics.

In May, 2017, Del Rio Academy (DRA) will be the FIRST School on Vancouver Island and second in Canada to launch Pivot Point’s Learn About Beauty. Whether English is your second language or you’re struggling to keep up, LAB will keep you motivated to learn and keep you on track with your education.

The hairdressing program is delivered in the classroom and in the salon. The instructor ratio is 2 instructors for 20 hairdressing students. This would be a maximum class size. The first 1 hour in the morning is for classroom theory time. The students then spend the remainder of the day (aside from lunch time and breaks) working on clients in the salon while being supervised by the instructor.


Upon completion of this course the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to perform the following: basic haircuts, perms, colours including foils, wet and dry styling, recognize scalp diseases and disorders, use proper sanitation procedures required for the industry, demonstrate proper reception duties, recommend and sell retail hairstyling products.

Professional Salon attire: Black, grey, and/ or white only. Closed toe shoes with quiet soft soles; runners or high heels, are not acceptable. Capris or dress pants are acceptable. Skirts and shorts if worn must be knee length. Jeans are not acceptable.
